BAMM501: Bachelor\'s project in Applied Mathematics (15 ECTS)

A supervisor contract and project statement must be handed in.

Submission is conducted electronically via https://blanket.sam.sdu.dk/form/101/submit. Submission must take place no later than 1 week after the semester has started, but is recommended, that it is handed in as soon as possible. The contract must be approved by supervisor, teaching committee and the head of studies.

Be aware that it is not possible to fill in the form after deadline of submission, since the application system will shut down. The system will reopen in connection with the next course registration, then you can fill out the form for the next semester.

Course introduction
Bachelor’s project takes place in the third year of the bachelor programme. The project should demonstrate the student’s ability of independent study within a certain area of applied mathematics or statistics and the ability of applying for this purpose learnt knowledge and methods.

Qualifications
At the conclusion of the bachelor’s project, the student should be able to:

  • handle complex situations in study- and work related context.
  • identify  needs for learning and acquire knowledge in an effective and independent way.
Expected learning outcome
At the conclusion of the bachelor’s project, the student should be able to:
  • Understand and analyze theories, methods and practice within applied mathematics.
  • Select and apply relevant mathematical and computational methods.
  • Present and describe in the project obtained knowledge in a precise and intelligible language.
Subject overview
The project is contained within a branch of applied mathematics or statistics. In addition, it introduces the student to performing substantial written tasks.

Prerequisites for participating in the exam

Assessment and marking:
  1. Project. External censorship, Danish 7-mark scale. (15 ECTS).

Deadline for bachelor's projects in the spring semester is 1 June. Deadline for bachelor's projects in the autumn semester is 1 January.

The bachelor's project may be carried out in groups of no more than 4 students. If the project is carried out in a group, the report will be part of the assessment at an individual oral examination at a later date. 

Deadline for handing in projects in the reexam period for winter examination is 1 march at the latest. Deadline for handing in projects in the reexam period for summer examination is 31 august.

Educational activities

Language
This course is taught in Danish or English, depending on the lecturer. However, if international students participate, the teaching language will always be English.

Remarks
The bachelor's project must contain an abstract of the contents of the report, cf. "Eksamensbekendtgørelsen" (statutory order of examinations) section 24, subsection 2. If the report is written in Danish, the abstract must be in English. If the report is written in English, the abstract must be in Danish.
