6 dages kombineret felt- og laboratorie-kursus, som afholdes på Marinbiologisk Forskningscenter i Kerteminde, søndag – fredag, uge 15.

Academic preconditions:
Bachelor degree or similar level. The course in Biological Oceanography should be followed in parallel
Course introductionThe primary aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge on the biology of the pelagic ecosystem and benthic-pelagic coupling. Topics studied are: structure and function of the pelagic food webs, particle dynamics in the water column, hydrodynamics and dynamic processes in marine ecosystems. Particular focus will be on the biological-physical interactions in the pelagic ecosystem.
Expected learning outcomeSubject overviewThe course is a 6 days combined field and laboratory course in pelagic processes in the coastal zone with focus on the interactions between hydrographics and phyto- and zooplankton communities. The course will consist of 2 half-day excursions with the county ship Liv II followed by practical work at the Marine Biological Research Centre in Kerteminde.

This course is taught in English.
Remarks
The course is part of the study programme in Biological Oceanography and it is possible to obtain dispensation from the prerequisite demand for the basic course in Biological, Physical and Chemical Oceanography at University of Kiel for the first 3 years. Considerable preparation in order to reach the level in the course should be expected.
