Course introduction
The purpose of this course is to give an understanding of the issues involved in computer security, for prevention and detection of security problems.

Qualifications
The student is expected to achieve knowledge about security problems in stand-alone or network-based applications, specifically to be able to identify:

- essential security problems in a specific computer system (perform risk analysis), and model these security concerns in systems by adapting standard security models,

- methods for establishing access control, authentification and authorization for securing systems and data,

- security problems related to confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountability, non-repudiation and reliability; and be able to propose safeguards to handle these problems,

- and describe fundamental properties of standard symmetrical and public-key encryption algorithms,

- the kinds of problem areas where encryption is applicable, and the kinds of problems which may have to be considered when applying encryption.
