Prerequisites:
None

Academic preconditions:
Continuum Physics and Electromagnetism (FY30) Mathematics B (MM02) must be passed.

Course introduction
The course will give an introduction to continuum dynamics with the main emphasis on basic concepts in hydrodynamics and plasma physics. The fundamental models will be discussed and the specific features of continuum systems will be derived. This includes wave propagation properties and an introduction to turbulence. Besides the fundamentals, some applications of hydrodynamics and plasmas will be summarized.

Expected learning outcome

Subject overview
Fundamental models in hydrodynamics: Navier-Stokes equations, concepts of viscosity, vortex dynamics, and turbulence. Characteristics of plasmas: fluid models, kinetic models, waves in plasmas. Applications: low temperature plasmas, hot fusion plasmas

Literature
