Prerequisites:
None

Academic preconditions:
The course consists of exercises and is connected with Solid State Chemistry 1. Knowledge of X-ray crystallographic methods and microscopy is an advantage.

Course introduction
To provide the student with experimental knowledge of the preparation, structure and properties of solid state materials.

Expected learning outcome

Subject overview
The preparation of five different materials by high temperature synthesis. for example; a coloured glass, a superconductor, a luminescent ceramic, an euhedral crystal and a permanent magnet. Analytical techniques involving; powder X-ray diffractometry, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, ESR, NMR, impedance spectroscipy, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetry, particle size analysis, optical microscopy and electron microscopy.
