Course introduction
The aim of the course is to quickly make the student capable of developing systems and carry out a project. The focus is on Internet applications and applications developed with VoiceXML
Competence:

At the end of the course the student will have the basic knowledge to develop Internet applications with PHP and MySQL and will be able to connect an Internet application written in PHP to a MySQL database. Through development of applications in VoiceXML the student will have gained experience in the development of spoken language applications and have an idea of problems in the design and construction of these applications. At the end of the course the student will have achieved knowledge of XML. Furthermore the student will be able to extract data from XML documents and transform these data to other formats by the development of an XML-parser constructed with PHP. The student will have basic knowledge of the possibilities of transforming of XML documents via the application of XSLT.

Expected learning outcome


Subject overview
Development of Internet applications with PHP, connection of Internet applications to a database, structure of XML documents, validation of XML documents, extraction of data from XML documents, development of speech-based applications with focus on VoiceXML as development language.

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
None

Assessment and marking:
A written report. External examination. Marks according to the 13-point scale. There is a re-examination by the end of 2nd quarter. The written report forms part of the first year’s test.

The teaching method is based on three phase model.
