Prerequisites:
None

Academic preconditions:
BB 08, Biology A and BB 04, Plant Biology

Course introduction
To provide a theoretical and practical understanding of the influence of biotic and abiotic faktors on terrestrial plant communities. In addition, the aim is to provide knowledge on the means by which legislation allows management including restoration of natural vegetations.

Expected learning outcome

Subject overview
The flora is monitored by use of simple floristic methods in selected biotopes, e.g. a forest or a meadow. Abiotic parameters are measured by conventional means: insolation, temperature and edaphic factors such as acidity, water balance, soil profile, nutrients, minerals and organic matter. Each plant community is characterized and the specific ecology identified. Vegetations are compared and similarities and differences evaluated including the possibility of improving plant diversity, e.g. by introducing grazing animals.
