Course introductionThe purpose of the course is to enable the student to perform laboratory work, including sterile-lab work with cell- and bacterial cultures, in a safe and independent way.
Expected learning outcomeAfter the course the student is expected to be able to
• Perform quality control on basic laboratory equipment and calibrate pH electrodes and microscopes
• Make solutions of chemicals from the ‘Materials and Methods’ section of articles
• Plan and perform quantitative measurements using standard curves and standard addition methods
• Extract chemicals from water samples using affinity chromatography
• Report results using basal statistical methods
• Work according to protocols for sterile laboratories
• Work according to safety regulations in the lab including being able to classify and dispose chemical waste
• Handle liquid nitrogen and pressure flasks properly
Subject overviewGLP, quality assessment and certainty of measurements.
Calibration, linearity, extinction coefficients, calculation of concentrations and molarities.
