Academic preconditions:
The curriculum from BB510 Ecology must be known.

Course introduction
Knowledge must be obtained about an ecological subject of own choice in order to describe important ecological processes. The course aims to provide an understanding of how organisms interact with the surrounding environment in relation to biotic and abiotic factors.

Expected learning outcome
After completing the course, the student will be able to:

- Describe a selected ecosystems functionality
- Explain relationships between organisms and processes
- Discuss how organisms are adapted to the surrounding environment
- Design experiments to elucidate a biological subject
- Acquire relevant information from the literature regarding a selected topic
- Handle and interpret obtained results

Subject overview
There will be focus on a subject of own choice regarding processes and organisms in a selected ecosystem. The role of processes and organisms for the function of the ecosystem will be described.

Assessment and marking:
Individual oral presentation.Internal examination by the teacher. Pass/fail.

Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.

Feltarbejde, laboratoriearbejde og/eller litteraturstudier under kyndig vejledning af en økologilærer. Valg af vejleder foregår i forbindelse med en indledende 2 timers forelæsning. Emnet vælges efterfølgende af den studerende i samråd med vejlederen. Der kan med fordel inddrages elementer fra andre kurser i forløbet. Arbejdet kan foregå individuelt eller i grupper på op til 4 studerende. Der tilstræbes størst mulig selvstændighed af de studerende.
