Course introduction
To acquire detailed knowledge of the salmonid lifecycle and its hormonal regulation and to gain practical experience conducting and evaluating laboratory projects.

Expected learning outcome

Subject overview
Theory: The course will give an overview of physiological processes in salmonids, such as osmoregulation, growth, sexual maturation, and parrsmolt transformation. With this background the anatomy and function of the endocrine system and how hormones are involved in the regulation af the above mentioned processes will be discussed.

Practicals: The laboratory exercises will consist of one or more projects on the hormonal regulation of salmonid seawater tolerance. The work will involve introduction to many different analytical methods, ranging from physiology to molecular biology.
