Course introduction
It is the goal of the course to improve oral communication skills of science students and to reveal their personal communication profile (abilities and potential) in order to prepare them for public lecturing and communication.

Expected learning outcome
At the end of the course the student should be able to:

• Know how to structure an oral presentation as a narrative, which excites and engages the listener.
• Be able to communicate research based knowledge to colleagues the public in an engaging fashion without compromising the scientific professionalism.
• Know the value of body language, voice, space and tecnic tools in a public lecture.
• Know how to handle nervousness when confronting large crowds.

Subject overview

  1. Introduction (1 day, 6 lessons)
  2. Lecture (with practice) about how to structure a lecture as a narrative (6 lessons)
  3. 1st oral presentation(4 lessons)
  4. Lecture about the use of Power Point  
  5. Lecture about body, space and the use of voice
  6. fieldanalysis of selected communication institutes; home work
  7. 2nd oral presentation
  8. Individual coaching and lecture about meeting with the guest (4 + 2 lessions)
  9. Preperation of presentation of selected communication institutes; home work
  10. 3th oral presentation (homework).
  11. Individual coaching and summing up( 4 + 2 lession)
  12. 4th and final oral presentation (6 lessions)

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
At least present 80% of the time with active participation.

Assessment and marking:
Oral exam graded after Danish 7-mark scale. Internal censorship.

Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.
Intro phase: 35 hours
Skills training phase: 15 hours

Educational activities Study phase: 50 hours

Language
This course is taught in Danish.

Remarks
The course is compulsory in the constituent module in communication.
The course is optional for other Biology and science students.
