Immunology (e.g. Bx10). Bachelor degree.

Course introduction
Knowledge and understanding of mechanisms in immunological self/non-self discrimination. Knowledge of organ specific and systemic autoimmune diseases.

Expected learning outcome
When the course has been taken, the student is expected to be able to:

describe basic mechanisms in immunological self/non-self discrimination
describe the role of innate and adaptive immunity in autoimmune diseases
describe systemic autoimmune diseases (e.g. connective tissue
diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus)
describe organ specific autoimmune diseases (e.g. diabetes type I, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune thyroiditis)
describe basic principles of diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases
read and understand new literature on autoimmunology
present issues and problems in autoimmunology

Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.

Undervisningen udgøres af tre faser; Intro- Trænings- og studiefase. Studiefasen vil bl.a. være en integreret del af intro- og træningsfasen. Det forventes også, at de studerende samarbejder om løsning af studiefaseopgaver udenfor konfrontationstimerne. Studiefasen fokuserer på forståelse af centrale begreber
Educational activities
Three phases, the intro, the training and the study phase, constitutes the teaching in the course. The study phase will both be and integrated part of the intro and training phase as well as it is expected, that the students cooperate in solving study phase assignments out of class. The study phase focuses on conceptual understanding.

This course is taught in Danish.

Remarks
The course is a Ph.D- course and the level is high. The course is a collaboration between SDU and Statens Serum Institut (SSI). Part of the course takes place at SSI.
