Academic preconditions:
Passed bachelors degree. The course may be taken by master's students however, please notice that this is a PhD course and thus the level is very high.
Course introduction
To introduce participants to the theory and use of classical protein purification methods.
Expected learning outcome
Subject overview
The course consists of a theoretical part where the theory behind the methods used is discussed, and a practical part. In the practical part the students will purify a protein. The methods used include cell organelle separation by centrifugation, salt precipitation, ion exchange chromatography, gel filtration, protein determination and photometric enzyme assay. The participants are expected to document purity and to determine molecular weights using gel electrophoresis.

Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.
Intro phase: 10 hours
Skills training phase: 60 hours, hereof:
- Laboratory exercises: 60 hours
Educational activities
Study phase: 90-100 hours

This course is taught in English, if international students participate. Otherwise the course is taught in Danish.
