None

Academic preconditions:
For SDU students: BM113 or BMB503 Fundamental Biochemistry & BMB505 Metabolic regulation must be passed.

Course introduction
To give students a thorough introduction to signalling events which underlie eukaryote cell function and dysfunction. Mechanism by which extracellular signals are transmitted to cells and exert their effects will be discussed. Principles of stem cell differentiation involving various signalling networks will be disscussed as well. Participants will learn about the roles of signalling molecules such as hormones, receptors, kinases, and transcription factors. Participants will also gain experience in reading original research articles and in oral and written presentation of scientifc results.

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
None

Assessment and marking:
Students will give short presentations of original research articles. They must attend at least 80% of the scheduled hours and participate actively in discussions following the presentations.
They will also prepare a short synopsis about a signaling topic. Instructors will advice in the preparation of this synopsis, which will also be the basis for the course grade according to the Danish 7-point scale with an external examiner.

Reexam after 4th quarter

Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.

Forelæsninger (12 timer), studenterpræsentationer (8 timer), eksaminatorietimer og laboratorieøvelser (16 timer).
