Academic preconditions:
Bachelor degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biomedicine or similar.

Participation in BMB803 at the same time is required.

Course introduction
This course introduces students to experimental work involving pathogenic bacteria. Major themes describing the exercises will be Host-Pathogen interactions and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. The students will be introduced to experimental methods, which are also used in research normally conducted in the laboratory.

Expected learning outcome
Upon succesful completion of this course, the students will be able to:

  • conduct experimental microbiology work under special safety precautions in a class 2 research laboratory
  • adhere to the safety regulations associated with working in a Class 2 environment
  • evaluate and interprete experimental data obtained in the laboratory
  • prepare graphical representations this data and present these in plenum.
  • Engage actively in teamwork during laboratory excersises, writing of the report, and oral presentation of results.

The teaching method is based on three phase model.
Intro phase: 4 hours
Skills training phase: 40 hours, hereof:
 - Laboratory exercises: 40 hours

Educational activities Study phase: 40 hours
