Course introduction
To give the students a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of the effect of drugs on the human organism (pharmacodynamics) and the fundamental principles of the influence of the human organism on drugs (pharmacokinetics). The teaching in special pharmacology has the aim to give the students a knowledge of mechanisms of action, pharmacological effects, indications and relevant side effects of the most important drugs used in the clinic.

Pharmacodynamics; pharmacokinetics; absorption; distribution; biotransformation and excretion of drugs; the pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system; special pharmacology; drug dependence, abuse and poisoning; side effects and interactions; clinical trials.

4 hour written examination without books, notes, etc. External examiner. Marks according to the 13- point marking scale.

Remarks
In the medical school, Pharmacology is taught over three semesters (6th, 7th, and 8th). Science students, who want to follow the course in two semesters, will have to follow the lectures given on 6th and 7th semester simultaneously, and then, in the next semester, follow the lectures given to the medical students on their 8th semester. The course is given twice: spring or autumn by your own choice. The course is held by Departments of Pharmacology (IMB)and Clinical Pharmacology, (IST).
