Prerequisites:
None

Academic preconditions:
Electromagnetism (FY02B) must be passed.

Course introduction
Introduction to generel methods of experimental physics, including data acquisition and analysis.

Expected learning outcome

Subject overview
In the lectures an introduction is given to electronics, optics and solid state physics. Emphasis will be on subjects dealt with in the lab. Laboratory exercises focus on general methods in spectroscopy and optics as well as electronic equiptment commonly applied to experiments to record, amplify and analyse signals. We will deal with photo detectors, electronic amplifiers/filters and some semiconductor devices. Then these devices will be used to record diffraction patterns of light and to study refraction phenomena. Finally, a grating spectrometer and a Fabry-Perot interferometer will be used to investigate optical spectra.
