Prerequisites:
None
Academic preconditions:
The Science Year.
Course introductionTo make the students familiar with the fundamental concepts of electromagnetism by providing them both with theoretical insight from text and problems as with hands-on experience in the laboratory. In this way the course provides a basis for understanding and applying electrical-, electronic- and optical components in modern technology.
QualificationsDuring this course the students will understand the description of electrical and magnetic fields and their sources. They will learn to work with a field picture or in a potential picture of the electrostatic field, and they will understand the concept of induction and its applications. They will learn to calculate simple circuits and to work with the transfer of energy in different forms in electric circuits. Through the course they will meet and explore the fundamental electromagnetic laws, which are the foundation of all the electromagnetic phenomena, and which will be the basis of the course Electromagnetism II.
Expected learning outcomeSubject overviewElectrostatic interactions and forces, fields and potentials. Electric currents including ac currents, and electric circuits. Magnetism and induction.
