Academic preconditions:
Students taking the course are expected to:
- Have knowledge of the contents of the the Bachelor's degree in physics or comparable courses.
Course introductionThe aim of the course is to enable the student to set up and conduct physical teaching experiments.
The course builds on the knowledge acquired in the previous courses in the physics curriculum and gives a theoretical, didactic and pedagogical basis for including teaching experiments.
The course is necessary to qualify to teach physics in high school.
In relation to the competence profile of the degree it is the explicit focus of the course to:
- Include physical experiments in a teaching situation.
- Apply physical experiments to support the theoretical review.
- Include theoretical, didactic and pedagogical considerations in physical experiments.
- To get the most out of physical experiments in relation to the given teaching situation.
Expected learning outcomeThe learning objective of the course is that the student demonstrates the ability to:
- Include an experimental setup, demonstrate its impact and its opportunities in respect to high school curriculum and suggest different experiments within the specific physical topic.
- Develop instructions that make students able to conduct the physical experiment optimally.
- Guide students in understanding the theoretical background for the experiment.
- Guide students in uncertainty calculations
- Include theoretical, didactic and pedagogical considerations in relation to the experiments.
Subject overviewThe following main topics are contained in the course:
- Involvement of classroom demonstrations as a learning tool.
- Laboratory work and laboratory safety.
- Preparation of experiment instructions.
- Didactics and learning theories.
- Uncertainty calculations

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
- The prerequisite for being able to take the examination is a written project, which forms the basis for the oral exam. Pass/fail, internal evaluation by teacher. (07003012).
Assessment and marking:
- Individual oral examination on the basis of a written project (5 ECTS). External censorship. Grade according to the Danish 7-mark scale. (07003002).
Reexamination in the same exam period or immediately thereafter. The mode of exam at the reexamination may differ from the mode of exam at the ordinary exam.
Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.
Intro phase: 15 hours
- Laboratory exercises: 25 hours
Educational activities
- Thorough study of a self-selected topic.
- Unassisted work with the experiment.
- Development of an experiment instruction as a basis for the oral exam.
Educational formThe course is divided into three sections, where the content of the first section and the second section are included in the third section. The first section deals with classroom demonstrations and their significance as a learning tool. The second section discusses guidelines for instructions to specific experiments and the third section couples the first two sections in a written product that forms the basis for the oral exam. In addition, the course includes lectures on didactics, learning theories, laboratory safety and uncertainty calculations.
Language
This course is taught in English, if international students participate. Otherwise the course is taught in Danish.
