Academic preconditions:
Bachelor's degree in physics

Course introduction
To give an understanding of the structure and development of the Universe, with emphasis on the very near Universe (the solar system) as well as the very distant Universe (cosmology)

Expected learning outcome
At the end of the course the studnet will be able to:
-explain details of the interaction between the earth and the moon, including the tides and solar and lunar eclipses
-show familiarity with the structure and origin of the solar system and the lalaw of nature governing the behaviour of its constituents
-demonstrate knowledge about the basic phenomena of cosmology
-explain basic features of cosmological models, including the system of equations governing the development of the Universe and the various solutions
-demonstrate knowledge about the development of the early Univer

Subject overview
The night sky: measurement of distances and masses in space.
The Earth and the Moon: Orbital and rotational motion, eclipses, tides.
The solar system: Structure and formation.
Cosmology: Hubble redshift and the microwave background radiation, cosmological models, the early Universe.
