Course introduction
To give an introduction to the theory of general relativity and an introduction the evolution, composition and structure of the Universe.
Expected learning outcome
After completing the course the student is expected to:
- have basic knowledge of general relativity
- demonstrate familiarity with the basic phenomena in cosmology
- explain the basic features of cosmological models, including the system of equations for the evolution of the Universe and its solutions.
- demonstrate knowledge of the evolution of the early Universe.
General relativity: equivalence principle, covariant and contravariant tensors, curvature tensor, Einstein's equation, FRW metric.
Cosmology: Hubble redshift and microwave background radiation, cosmological models, the early Universe.

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
None
Assessment and marking:
Oral exam. Danish 7 mark scale, internal examiner (5 ECTS).
The oral examination is based on a project assignment prepared by the candidate.
Reexamination in the same exam period or immediately thereafter. The examination mode at reexamination may differ from the one at the ordinary examination.
Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.
Intro phase: 32 hours
Skills training phase: 16 hours, hereof:
- Tutorials: 16 hours
- Other: 35 forelæsninger hours

Language
This course is taught in Danish or English, depending on the lecturer. However, if international students participate, the teaching language will always be English.
