Course introductionTo teach the students to study particular problems within a particular field. The course is based on group work – each group typically consists of 2-4 students who work closely together with a teacher. The students will obtain experimental and theoretical knowledge and practice in solving chemical problems.
Expected learning outcomeSubject overviewThe students are divided into groups. The course begins with a few lectures given by a teacher who introduces the fundamental concepts, methods and problems within a special field. The teacher formulates a number of problems from which the students can chose. On the basis of literature search, the students work out what is presently state-of-the-art concerning this problem. They write a minor literature research report containing a suggestion how to solve a specific problem including a description of available possibilities. Upon the teachers approval of this suggestion, the students carry out the necessary syntheses and analyses. This is followed by a description of the results in the form of a report/poster. The project is completed by a plenary debate where each group defend their report
