Course introductionThe aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge of practical analytical chemistry at such a level that the acquired knowledge can contribute to the theoretical understanding of fundamental chemistry and to a general understanding of experimental science.
Qualifications:
The students will obtain a practical insight in experimental chemistry exemplified by quantitative inorganic analysis and organic identification, and from this stage they will be able to develop their ability to connect experimental observations with scientific conclusions. Moreover, their ability to work independently and safely in an experimental laboratory will be strengthened.
Expected learning outcomeSubject overview- Quantitative inorganic analysis, including
o Potentiometric titration and similar types of analysis related by corresponding calculations for determination of chemical components in complicated mixtures
- Organic identification, including
o Relation of organic molecular structures to chemical and physical properties and subsequent identification of unknown compounds
