Comment:
Der bliver afholdt undervisning både i august (1-2 hold a maksimalt 17 studerende) og september (1 hold a maksimalt 17 studerende).

Prerequisites:
None

Academic preconditions:
KE505 Organic chemistry must be passed, KE502 Chemistry of the elements and physical chemistry must be attended, KE504 Analytical spectroscopy is recommended.

Course introduction
The aim of the course is to give the students a detailed knowledge about common operations used in a synthetic laboratory. Thus, the objective of the course is to provide the students with fundamental knowledge that forms the basis for the completion of a bachelor project within synthetic chemistry.

Qualifications
The students will receive an introduction to practical organic synthesis and should be able to:
• carry out multi-step syntheses
• carry out synthesis under inert atmosphere
• carry out and have a knowledge about different purification techniques
• estimate the purity of the compounds prepared using spectroscopic techniques

Expected learning outcome

Subject overview
The following topics will be treated and discussed:
1. Precautions against accidents in the laboratory
2. Secure behavior in a synthetic laboratory
3. Use of Beilstein and Chemical Abstracts
4. Planning synthetic work
5. Different unit operations used in a synthetic laboratory
6. Preparation of selected organic and inorganic compounds
