Academic preconditions:
KE505 Organic chemistry A is presupposed known. Knowledge of cell biology is presupposed.
Course introductionTo make the participants acquainted with important parts of medicinal chemistry.
QualificationsThe course will give
- a broad overview over classes of medicinal drugs
- overview over important classes of drug targets
- knowledge of mechanism of action for representative drugs
- acquaintance with terms of medicinal chemistry
- knowledge to methods for drug discovery
Expected learning outcomeSubject overviewIntroduction to design and development of new drugs, and terms like leads, pharmacophores, structure-activity relationships, pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism and prodrugs. Drug targets like receptors, ion channels, enzymes and nucleic acids will be covered, and selected drug classes like antibacterial, antiviral, antiulcer and anticancer drugs, and drugs targeting specific receptor systems like the cholinergic and the adrenergic receptors will be covered in more detail.

Oral examination. External examiner. Marks according to the Danish 7-point marking scale.

The teaching method is based on three phase model.
Undervisningen består af forelæsninger (2 dobbelttimer om ugen, i alt 28 timer) samt eksaminatorietimer (1 dobbelttime om ugen, i alt 14 timer).
