Comment:
Dette kursus undervises på engelsk.
Laboratoriearbejdet vil foregå på små hold; skemalægges internt på instituttet.
Prerequisites:
None
Academic preconditions:
First year pass. Chemistry of the Elements and Physical Chemistry (KE502) assumed known.
Course introductionThe course will provide students with an introduction to a range of analytical techniques, their mode of operation, and applications.
QualificationsAt the end of the course students will be able to make a critical selection of the most appropriate technique for a given analysis (based on e.g. necessary detection limit, selectivity, sensitivity, matrix), have the knowledge to optimise the measurement parameters, and to perform the necessary data treatment to obtain the final sample results.
Expected learning outcomeAfter completing the course the student will be able to:
• explain the principles of operation of several analytical techniques
• select a suitable technique for a given analysis
• design an analytical protocol for a given target
• interpret analytical data
• paraphrase simple literature descriptions of analytical determinations
Subject overviewPrinciples of operation, general features (detection limit, measurable compounds, selectivity, sensitivity, matrix interferences) and typical applications of:
• Chromatography (gc and hplc)
• Atomic absorption spectroscopy
• Inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy
• Potentiometry
Literature-
Holler, Skoog, Crouch:
Principles of Instrumental Analysis,
6th edition. (NB. Det er ikke nødvendigt at købe denne bog.).
