Academic preconditions:
Content of all first year courses will be assumed known.
Course introductionThe goal of the course is to provide the students with a basal theoretical understanding of molecular electronic structure, chemical bonding and reactivity, as well as optical spectroscopy based on the quantum mechanical description of atoms and molecules. This includes group theory and its consequences for the electronic structure and optical spectra of molecules. Furthermore, the student shall obtain the basic background knowledge of quantum chemistry for the advanced courses in molecular modeling, NMR spectroscopy etc., inorganic chemistry and physical organic chemistry.
