Course introduction
To provide the students with knowledge of the application of organic-chemical reaction mechanisms and quantitative relationships with the purpose of predicting and explaining organic-chemical reactions.

Expected learning outcome
After having completed this course, the student is expected to be able to:

• Describe and name stereochemical structures.
• Use the theory of optical activity.
• Describe and make arguments for organic chemical reaction mechanisms.
• Discuss suggestions for organic chemical reaction mechanisms.
• Describe the influence of chemical structures and reaction conditions on the rate of organic chemical reactions.
• Calculate thermodynamic and empirical reaction parameters from experimental data.
• Predict the rate of organic chemical reaction reactions.

Subject overview
Stereochemistry, substitution and rearrangement reactions, reactive intermediates, linear free energy relationships, and symmetry-controlled reactions.
