Academic preconditions:
Organic Chemistry A (KO 02 / iot: K-OKE1) is presupposed known. Knowledge of cell biology is presupposed.
Course introduction
To make the participants familiar with important aspects of medicinal chemistry.
Expected learning outcome
Subject overview
Introduction of important aspects of development and design of drugs, including leads and pharmacophors, structural activity relations (SAR and QSAR), pharmaco-kinetics, drug metabolism and prodrugs. Furthermore, drugs designed for various targets will be treated: receptors, ion channels, enzymes or nucleic acids as well as classes of drugs including antibacterial and antiviral drugs, anticancer drugs, cholinergie and adrenergic agonists and antagonists, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, opioates, antihistamines and anaestetics etc.

None
Assessment and marking:
Oral examination. Marks according to the Danish 7-point marking scale. External examiner. Examination in oppositional terms only after acceptance from the Study Board.

The ordinary exam takes place on January 14, 2008 and January 15, 2008 and January 16, 2008
Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.
1-2 weekly double lessons per semester (54 lessons in total) consisting of lectures including plenary discussions and group work. Part of the group work will be based on recent publications and will be followed by student presentations.
