Danish high school mathematics (A level).

Course introduction
To give the students knowledge of the fundamental methods and techniques in the field of differential calculus and integration, building on to material familiar to the students from the gymnasium.

Expected learning outcome
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
  • apply methods and results of differentiation and integration for functions of one variable to solve problems within the scope of the course syllabus
  • present, formulate and carry out basic mathematical arguments needed for mathematical problems for the topics mentioned above
  • give arguments for the steps in the solution of the exercises
Subject overview
  • The concept of a function, polynomials, logarithms, exponential and inverse trigonometric functions.
  • Differentiation and integration.
  • The fundamental theorem of calculus.
  • Taylor polynomials, error estimates and calculations of limits from the Taylor formula.
  • Solution of first order linear and separable and second order linear differential equations.
  • Substitution in integrals, partial integration, and integration of rational functions by partial fractions.

(a) Mandatory assignemnts, pass/fail, internal evaluation by teacher (1 ECTS).

Re-examination after 4th quarter. The re-exam may be a different type than the ordinary exam.
