Academic preconditions:
The content of MM501 Calculus I and MM502 Calculus II, MM505 Linear Algebra and DM502 Programming A must be known.

Course introductionThe student should see examples of mathematical modeling
in science and engineering within the topics of this course (see below) and should learn to analyze and solve these problems numerically.
QualificationsAfter the course the student should be able to
•	model simple problems from science and engineering as mathematical problems
•	solve these problems numerically, i.e. plan and carry out numerical computations
•	analyze and evaluate the result of a numerical computation in relation to the original problem, in particular address the sources of error: model error, method error and round-off error.
Expected learning outcomeSubject overviewsolution of linear and nonlinear systems of equation
• numerical integration and differentiation
• simple integral and ordinary differential equations
• estimation of error for iterative methods and discretization methods
