Course introduction
The overall goal of the course is to bridge the gap between basic mathematical techniques and their applications within science. The course will train the students to deal with scientific models by identifying and applying the relevant mathematical methods, including mathematical symbolic language and logical arguments.

Expected learning outcome
At the end of the course, the student is expected to:
- Apply methods and results from calculus to analyze mathematical  models.
- Model and analyze experiments with discrete sample spaces using elementary combinatorial techniques.
- Formulate and, using a mathematical symbolic language, carry out arguments relating to mathematical problems within the syllabus of the course.
- Solv mathematical problems within the syllabus of the course.

Subject overview
- Combinatorics and discrete probability theory.
- The concept of a function.
- Differentiation and integration of functions of one and several variables.
- Differential equations.
- Vector calculus and curve and suface integrals.
- The theorems of Gauss, Green and Stokes.

Literature
There isn't any litterature for the course at the moment.

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
None

Assessment and marking:
a. Written exam. Danish 7 mark scale, internal examiner. (4 ECTS)
b. Project assignment. Danish 7. mark scale, internal examiner. (4 ECTS)
c. Mandatory assignments. Pass/fail, internal evaluation by teacher. (2 ECTS)

The pass criterium is the weighted average of the marks obtained in teh project and the written exam. The course cannot be passed if the grade -3 is given for either of the two tests.

Reexamination after 4th quarter

The mode of exam at the reexamination may differ from the mode of exam at the ordinary exam.
