60 ECTS of the master programme.

Academic preconditions:
Students taking the course are expected to hold a Bachelor degree in mathematics and the knowledge and competencies contained in that.

Course introduction
The aim of the activity is to via various activities such as participation in courses or working on projects under supervision of the PhD-supervisor to introduce the student to the subject field of the PhD-studies. The activities should be commenced within the first semester and be completed before the midway-exam.

A part of the activity could consist of course-work in case the PhD student and supervisor finds this relevant. Courses can either be regular candidate or PhD-courses offered by SDU or another university or participation in summer schools or other similar activities where ECTS credit can be given. The rest of the ECTS is to be done as a project or projects under guidance of the PhD-supervisor. The projects can for example be evaluated by giving presentations of articles or by a written report. The activities should contribute to orienting the student in the area of his/hers field of study as well as the specific research project.
