Course introduction
The aim of the course is to give an introduction to application development and the multitude of factors that have to be taken into consideration to develop and evaluate applications efficiently and achieve usable systems. Today there is an increasing demand for usability and for different ways of interacting with a system. Furthermore environmental factors (e.g. mobile, stationary, noisy) are very important for the development of the specific application. In the lectures the starting point will be in specific applications and the student will gain practical experience through the exercises and the written report.

Competence:
The student will have gained knowledge of and will – given a specific context - be able to choose and apply the correct one(s) among basic methods and tools for usable and effective system design, e.g. design guidelines, different development platforms and -tools, and data resources. Furthermore the student will have obtained knowledge of, be able to make a rational choice between and be able to apply a number of core methods for collecting data and for evaluation of usability, e.g. mock-ups, controlled laboratory tests, questionnaires and interviews.
