Academic preconditions:
Passed first-year examination except for students at The Faculty of Engineering. Knowledge of BMB523 and SU501 or SU514 is expected.

Course introduction
To give participants

  1. knowledge of the normal function of the body and the individual organs in order to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms and thus prevention and treatment of diseases and to give an understanding of qualifications necessary to help people with physial and mental well-being.
  2. insight in collecting knowledge and critically estimate the information in the light of the exactness, specificity and sources of error of the applied methods.
  3. certain knowledge of physiological research.


Qualifications
By the end of the course the students can:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of physiological terms and ideas in so far as it is necessary for the ongoing study.
  2. explain (or hypothesise) the function of specific organs or organ systems on the basis of existing knowledge.
  3. explain the control systems of the organism including the effects of disturbances of the individual organs or normal function of the organ system.
  4. decribe the fundamental methods applied in physiology includigng methods applied in the clinic and be able to explain the specificity, source of error and exactness of the methods.
  5. calculate and interpret methods based on data collected with physiological methods of measurement.

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
Attendance at 4 laboratory exercises is a prerequisite for exam a.

Assessment and marking:
  1. 4 reports based on laboratory exercise. Evaluated on a pass/fail basis by internal censorship. 0 ECTS. (29003412)
  2. 4-hour writtten exam. Evaluated by external censorgship by the danish 7-mark scaled, 10 ECTS. (29003402)

Possibility of a reexamination in reports not later than three days after the report has been evaluated to fail.

The teaching method is based on three phase model.
