Prerequisites:
None

Academic preconditions:
Passed BMB503 Fundamental Biochemistry and SU501 Anatomy. Furthermore SU502 Medical Physiology must be known.

Course introduction
To give the students a thorough knowledge in classic receptor pharmacology, pharmacokinetic and the effects of drugs and their mechanisms of action at the cellular level and organ level. The teaching aims is to give the students a close knowledge to the chemical signals that works on cells and organic tissues and knowledge to the effect of drugs on these signal mechanisms, which develops through interaction with receptors, enzymes and ion transportation mechanisms.

Expected learning outcome

Subject overview
Classical receptor pharmacology, pharmacokinetics (absorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of drugs), chemical mediated signal mechanism (intracellular and extracellular signal mechanisms including local hormones and inflammatory signal mechanisms) and the effect of drugs on various organ systems (the cardiovascular system, kidneys, the respiratory system and the gastrointestinal system).
