Course introduction
The course will provide the students with deep knowledge of the literature on modern biological anthropology. From this they will be able to evaluate the research literature critically and independently study a broad range of anthropological issues at different levels. The cours will also give the students practical skills in hadling of complex skeletal finds and cominlgled human bones.

Expected learning outcome
- express opinions on complex problems using the right anthropologic terminology
- critically evaluate the most recent scientific literature on biological anthropology
- independently design a small research project
- analyze the dynamics of social behaviour in human societies
- model population dynamic systems
- Participate in the public debate on humen biological issues
- Sort out a sample of comingled bones and e.g. calculate the minimum number of individuals represented in the sample

Subject overview
The course will be based on the presently most advanced methods within biological anthropology as applied in historical osteology, forensic anthropology and evolutionary palaeontology. The following subjects will be introduced and discussed:

- Analysis and modelling of data
- Methodological and evolutionary argumentation for choice of osteological and anthropometric measurements and observations
- Evolution of mortality
- Analytical palaeodemography
- Mathematical modelling

The practical part of the course will require the students to extract demographic data from comingled skeletal parts and single found bones
