Academic preconditions:
The content of SU503 Pharmacology and SU502 Medical Physiology is assumed known.

Course introduction
Pathophysiological mechanisms and pharmacotherapeutic principles and targets of diseases, and their interrelationship. Focus on cardio-vascular, cardio-renal, cardio-pulmonary, and central nervous system diseases as well as infections and cancers. Focus on the classes of drugs that affect these organ systems and diseases and on the (genetic) factors that influence the efficacy of these drugs.

Expected learning outcome
Insights in the quantitative, molecular, cellular, systemic and genetic aspects of rational pharmacotherapy of major human diseases and the relevance’s of biomedical research in these areas.

Subject overview
Mechanisms leading to dysfunction of the heart, the blood, the vessels, the kidneys, the lungs, the central nervous system. Disruption of homeostasis.
Anti-arrhythmic-, lipid lowering-, anti-platelet and thrombolytic-, antihypertensive, broncho-dilator and anti-inflammatory-, anti-epileptic-, anxiolytic-, anti-psychotic-, anti-depresaant-, anti-biotic and chemotherapeutic drugs, as well as local and general anesthetic agents and analgesic compounds. Restoration of homeostasis.

Written exam. Danish 7 mark scale, external examiner.
