Course introduction
This course covers fundamental principles of computer networks, mobile networks and wireless sensor networks. The goal of the course is to teach basic networking concepts including computer network architectures and communication protocols, the OSI reference model, network programming, networking principles.

Expected learning outcome
After the course the student is supposed to be able to:

- ekplain the fundamental principles of wire and wireless networking:
- design and implement a multi-layer protocol hierarchy, realizing a reliable data transmission with routing over an arbitrary network;
-design and implement simple wireless sensor network systems;
- develop network applications.

Subject overview
The course will consist of two parts. The topics in the first part cover: Data transmission; network topologies;; network routing; congestion control; QoS; the data link, network, transport and application layers; LAN and medium access protocols; networks security; network programmering; mobile computing; wireless senor networks and programmering; ubiqutious and pervasive computing. The second part is seminar-style, and research-oriented. Students will read, present and discuss the most recent major networking conference papers. Then a particular focus will be the study and development of your own research ideas. The course is intended to stimulate students in their own research in advaced networkning areas.
