Academic preconditions:
The contents of DM506 Computer Architecture and DM510 Operating Systems must be known.

Course introduction
This course gives the participants an understanding of the fundamental principles of computer networks and mobile networks, as well as selected topics in wireless sensor networks.

Expected learning outcome
After the course the student is supposed to be able to:
  • explain the concepts, techniques and algorithms from the curriculum in clear and precise language.
  • analyze the network systems and protocols covered in the curriculum with respect to performance.
  • present the contents of one or more selected scientific papers in a clear manner.
  • write technical reviews of selected scientific papers in a clear language.
Subject overview
Application layer, transport layer, network layer, link layer, wireless and mobile network, network security, and an overview of wireless sensor network.

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
None

Assessment and marking:
a) Presentation of one scientific paper, as well as a short written review, to be presented in class. Internal censorship by the lecturer, passed/failed. Passing paper presentation and review is a prerequisite for participating in the oral examination.
b) Oral examination. External censorship, graded according to the 7-point grading scale.

The teaching method is based on three phase model.

This course is taught in Danish or English, depending on the lecturer. However, if international students participate, the teaching language will always be English.
