Academic preconditions:
The contents of DM505 Database Design and Programming must be known. Knowledge of the contents of DM532 Principles of Database Systems is a plus.

Course introduction
To give the participants an understanding of the state-of-the-art data management technologies in the selected topics, as well as theoretical and practical skills to develop novel technologies in new data management applications

Expected learning outcome
• present the contents of one or more selected scientific papers in a clear manner • write brief reviews of selected scientific papers in a clear language • conduct a theoretical or implementation-based project which should be within the topics covered by the course and contain components of original work • report work done in the project in clear and precise language, and in a structured fashion • explain the background knowledge related to the project • account for the details of the project and the reasoning of the theories, the implementation choices, and/or the experimental results

Prerequisites for participating in the exam
None

Assessment and marking:
a) Presentation of one or more scientific papers, plus brief written reviews of the papers presented in the class. Internal evaluation by lecturer, grading pass/fail.

b) Project and oral exam. External examiner, grading on the Danish 7 mark scale. At the oral exam, the student will be examined in the project work done, as well as in other subjects from the curriculum. A single grade is given for the project and the oral examination combined. Presentation and reviews of papers must be passed before the oral exam can be attended
