Course introduction
The course builds on the knowledge the students have acquired in the courses BB520 and BB807 (Molecular toxicology), and the aim is to convey to the students a more thorough knowledge about the mechanisms underlying the adverse effects of pollutants in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The participants must obtain experience in acquiring from the primary scientific literature a deeper knowledge about and understanding of transport and effects of the major groups of pollutants. Furthermore, the aim is that the students must be able to use the acquired knowledge and understanding in analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of ecotoxicological topics.

Expected learning outcome
At the end of the course, the studenst are expected to be able to:
• acquire ecotoxicological knowledge and understanding from the primary scientific literature
• use the acquired knowledge and understanding in the analysis of ecotoxicological topics
• write a synthesis and an evaluation of an ecotoxicological or toxicological topic
• orally present selected topics within this scientific field.

Subject overview
A) In lectures, detailed knowledge about transport and effects of the most damaging pollutants will be presented to students.
B) The participants will write an approximately 10 page report on an ecotoxicological/toxicological topic of their own choice.
C) Based on the scientific literature the participants orally present two different ecotoxicological topics; one of these topics is presented to the other students as a lecture and the other topic is presented as a short contribution at the oral examination. Both a synthesis and an evaluation of the primary scientific literature are expected.

Assessment and marking:

The oral examination comprises a short presentation of an ecotoxicological topic; the topic is given to the students 7 days before the examination. The oral examination and the written report count equally in the total evaluation of the course.
The presentation of an ecotoxicological topic during the course is a mandatory assignment. A minimum of 80% of the seminars must be attended. The oral examination can only be attended if the written report is handed in.

Reexamination after 4th quarter.

Expected working hours
The teaching method is based on three phase model.

Forelæsninger: 18 timer
Projektopgave: 20 timer
Studenterseminar: 10 timer

De studerende udfærdiger en teoretisk rapport over et selvvalgt emne inden for det økotoksikologiske/toksikologiske fagområde.
