Course introduction
The course builds on the knowledge the students have acquired in the courses BB520 and BB807 (Molecular toxicology), and the aim is to convey to the students a more thorough knowledge about the mechanisms underlying the adverse effects of pollutants in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The participants must obtain experience in acquiring from the primary scientific literature a deeper knowledge about and understanding of transport and effects of the major groups of pollutants. Furthermore, the aim is that the students must be able to use the acquired knowledge and understanding in analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of ecotoxicological topics.

Expected learning outcome
At the end of the course, the studenst are expected to be able to:
  • acquire ecotoxicological knowledge and understanding from the primary scientific literature
  • use the acquired knowledge and understanding in the analysis of ecotoxicological topics
  • write a synthesis and an evaluation of an ecotoxicological or toxicological topic
  • orally present selected topics within this scientific field.
Subject overview
A) In lectures, detailed knowledge about transport and effects of the most damaging and new emerging pollutants will be presented to students.
B) Based on the scientific literature the participants orally present two different ecotoxicological topics to the other students as a lecture. Both a synthesis and an evaluation of the primary scientific literature are expected, furthermore self-directed and critical literature research.
C) The participants will write a report containing of abstracts of 250 words for each of the topics presented.
