Academic preconditions:
Bachelor degree in Biology must be passed.

Course introduction
Laboratory exercises and excursions are a part of the Danish high school (gymnasium/HF) curriculum. The participants learn to design laboratory exercises and organize excursions. They also gain experience in communicating biological topics at the appropriate proficiency level using different instructional techniques. (The course does not satisfy the pedagogical requirements for teaching at the high school level, but is a supplement to these).

Expected learning outcome
The students will achieve experience with biology experiments and communication of biology so that they can:

• Use biological knowledge to plan and conduct demonstration experiments and student laboratory exercises that illustrate central biological principles.
• Plan and carry out an excursion.
• Write instructions for student laboratory exercises at the gymnasium/high school level and take part in the exercise for the high school students.
• Communicate biological topics to chosen target groups at different educational levels.
• Plan and present a study plan for a 20 h course on a biological topic, which includes an experimental element.
• Account for didactic thoughts that underlie individual lessons in a course.

Subject overview
Following an introduction to the course, the participants prepare and conduct several biological experiments on different topics and at different levels of difficulty. The participants learn to prepare and carry out an excursion. There are lectures on the art of communicating biological topics, and the participants themselves practise different techniques of teaching. Each participant must complete a project that describes a study plan for a larger course containing laboratory exercises. The study plan is presented orally and contains practice and the written report is to be approved.

Literature
There isn't any litterature for the course at the moment.
