Course introduction
The aim of this course is to strengthen students’ productive knowledge about academic writing. The course takes as its point of departure students’ experience with bachelor projects focusing on the writing of theses (specialer). The course combines theoretical knowledge and practical productive experience. The theoretical approach includes theory about academic writing in general, writing about biology and academic publication. Practical productive experience combines studies of examples with exercises in the process of writing comprehensive academic texts about biology, including a concrete task of writing a piece of pilot work.

Expected learning outcome
By the end of the course, the student is expected to:

- have gained general knowledge about problems related to the writing of longer academic texts
- know the tools of writing academic texts and how to use them
- be able to apply theory to practical writing processes working individually and collaboratively
- be able to plan and organize the writing of longer academic texts
- be able to write a formulation of the problem of a writing project about biology
- be able to carry through and implement a working process from idea to final revise about an academic subject on postgraduate level

Subject overview
General norms of academic writing on postgraduate level. Norms and genre demands in academic writing about biology. Rules of academic publication. From bachelor project to thesis, studies of genres and models. Writing processes. Response. Supervision and informal peer review.

Assessment and marking:
Compulsory writing assignments internal marking by teacher with pass/fail.

The teaching method is based on three phase model.

21 eksaminatorietimer og 21 timers teoretiske øvelser. .
Desuden oplæg kombineret med diskussion, produktive analyser, øvelser og skriftlige hjemmeopgaver
