Course introduction
It is the goal of the course to improve oral communication skills of science students and to reveal their personal communication profile (abilities and potential) in order to prepare them for public lecturing and communication.

Expected learning outcome
At the end of the course the student should be able to:

• Know how to structure an oral presentation as a narrative, which excites and engages the listener.
• Be able to communicate research based knowledge to the public in an engaging fashion without compromising the scientific professionalism.
• Know the value of body language and voice in a public lecture.
• Know how to handle nervousness when confronting large crowds.

Subject overview
1) Introduction (1 day, 6 lessons)
2) Lecture (with practice) about how to structure a lecture as a narrative (1 day, 6 lessons)
3) Lecture (with practice) about body language (1 day, 8 lessons)
4) The students prepare oral presentations; home work
5) 1st oral presentation (1 day, 8 lessons)
6) Individual coaching (A total of 6 lessons: 3 days with each 2 lessons over a period of 3 weeks)
7) The students prepare the 2nd oral presentation; home work
8) 2nd and final oral presentation (1 day, 8 lessons).

Assessment and marking:
Oral exam graded pass/fail. Internal censorship by teacher.
