Kursusintroduktion
The course aims at providing the student with general knowledge about the key theoretical and practical aspects of business development, the developing of business plans as well as skills to conduct an actual business plan. Rather than exploring theoretical depth, the course takes an applied perspective on business development and innovation management.

Forventet læringsudbytte
By participating in this course the participant can:
  • Conduct a business plan, including a marketing plan, organization plan and finance plan, based on an actual business idea.
  • Understand, describe and evaluate the theories that represent the general entrepreneurship and innovation management literature.
  • Describe and given an account for legal issues and sources of finance in relation to business start up.
  • Describe and given an account for the relevance of division of labor and inter-functional coordination.
Emneoversigt
The course is developed around a cross faculty setting, inviting students from all faculties of University of Southern Denmark. The structure of the course is based upon 3 modules, where two modules (1 and 3) are shared and 1 module (2.A and 2.B) is specialized. The specialized module is differentiated between students based on prior knowledge about at least bachelor-level business administration.

      Module 2.A: Innovation management (Participants with business administration background)
      • Value appropriation from innovations
      • Technology, innovation, and strategic change
      • Analyze and evaluate the technology landscape
      Module 2.B: Doing business (Participants without business administration background)

      • Business functions
      • Market research
      Module 3: The Business Plan (all academic disciplines)
      • Marketing and market forecasting (the marketing plan),
      • Organizational development (the organization plan)
      • Finance and sources of venture finance (the finance plan)
      • Legal issues (Property rights, patents, etc.)

      Eksamen- og censurform:
      Time of examination:
      Ordinary examination in January and re-examination in February.

      Examination conditions:
      Passed early-term assignment (01003812)
      Passed half-term assignment (01003822)
      Passed late-term assignment (01003832)

      Before taking the exam the student has to pass three assignments, cf. above. The three assignments have to be passed in the same semester. Assignments are only offered in the term where the course is taught. The assignments are to be solved individually. The assignments are evaluated internally on a pass/fail basis. The purpose of the assignments is to test the student in one or more targets in depth. Parts of the three assignments, particularly the late-term assignment, may be integrated in the final term paper

      Form of examination:
      The course is evaluated on the basis of a final 100% term paper – a business plan of max. 20 pages plus appendices based on an ACTUAL product or service (may be written in groups of max. 4 persons). It must clearly be stated, who is responsible for which part to make an individual evaluation possible. Internal evaluation. Pass/fail. (01003802)

      The re-examination is individual and based on a revised term-paper plus an additional 10 pages written assignment.

      Vejledende timetal
      På naturvidenskab er undervisningen tilrettelagt efter trefasemodellen dvs. intro, trænings- og studiefasen.

      The course is based on three hour lectures once a week supplemented with guest lectures by business people. One hour supervised group work is scheduled within each lecture where appropriate. The teaching language is English. After the second module the participants must individually write and pass a mandatory assignment to continue to the exam, a full business plan.
